Idea

HAW is developing a preventive wildfire and fire-risk mitigation approach that focuses on stopping ignition before it occurs. Instead of reacting to fires after they start, the concept targets the fundamental conditions required for combustion heat, fuel, and oxygen particularly in vulnerable environments such as residential structures, forests, and urban interfaces. The core idea is to reduce fire susceptibility at the source, protecting both infrastructure and ecosystems from large-scale fire events.

Challenge

HAW is addressing the escalating global challenge of large-scale fires, which cause severe environmental, economic, and societal damage. Wildfires and similar events contribute significantly to climate change through massive CO₂ emissions, destroy ecosystems, pollute air with toxic substances, and degrade soil and water systems. Additionally, fire dynamics such as firestorms and secondary ignitions make containment increasingly complex. Existing methods are often reactive and insufficient, creating a need for proactive, scalable solutions that can prevent ignition, limit spread, and reduce the cascading effects on human safety, biodiversity, and climate systems.

Solution

HAW is delivering a system designed to suppress fire ignition and spread by actively removing heat and oxygen in critical zones while reducing the availability of combustible materials. The approach includes protecting structures from ignition caused by airborne embers and burning debris, as well as preventing ground fires through environmentally safe, biodegradable agents that alter water behavior to neutralize flammable underbrush. By combining direct property protection with landscape-level fire containment, the solution enables faster control of wildfires while maintaining safe evacuation routes and reducing secondary ignition risks.
